Steketee Design was thrilled to take on a prestigious challenge: designing the digital blueprint for Huiskamp Carrosseriebedrijf’s new line of hearses, built on the Mercedes-Benz W214 ( E-class) platform. Filling the shoes of Huiskamp’s skilled specialists was a great honour and we embraced it with the passion and dedication that such a great and unique product deserves.
HuiskampThe project began with a cutting-edge approach: ultra-detailed 3D scans, meticulously capturing every curve, contour, and component of the Mercedes-Benz W214 platform. These high-fidelity scans served as the digital foundation for the entire design process, enabling our team to create accurate, lifelike 3D models of the new hearse body variants.

In the digital realm, 3D printing became a game-changer, allowing us to rapidly prototype and physically test critical elements like fittings, joints, and mechanical functionalities. This hands-on approach meant we could verify the precision of each component’s fit and function long before full-scale production began.

Working hand-in-hand with Huiskamp, we guided the entire process—from first sketches to final tooling approval—for both the 3-door model ( for two coffins, with a wider rear) and the 5-door model (ideal for one cofin).
The final lineup? Four stunning W214-based body variants:
An incredible project to be part of. Taking a brand new MB E-class, cutting it in half, stretching it and making it look like a factory build new car requires extensive experience and craftmanship. Witnessing this craftsmanship firsthand and taking this bold step into the (digital) future alongside such a visionary company was truly inspiring and with a great end result.
